Parsley Aerial Parts (Leaves) Dried Whole, Harvested August through September 2022

Parsley is grown in our own backyards. Herb Pocket workers grow plants without herbicides, pesticides, insecticides, fungicides, etc.  That’s better than “certified organic.”  When we harvest herbs it’s at the right time of day and at the right time of year for the best medicine. As we harvest we notice and discard rusted leaves, grass pieces, bugs, and yellowed leaves. We harvest (usually within a few minutes) and immediately take the plants inside where, if needed, they are washed and dried as quickly as possible. We do not use a steam application to kill bugs on freshly harvested plants. Our herbs dry in a dark room until they are placed in a paper sack for storage, also in a dark room. If a tincture is being made from the dried plant, we aim to make it within 6 weeks of harvest. If a tincture is made from the fresh plant, it is made within 48 hours of harvest. All plants and plant medicine are kept in the dark as much as possible during and after processing as well as during storage.. We pick every flower and leaf. We give thanks to the plants. We pour our heart and soul into providing a top quality product because we expect the plants to be very good at supporting normal body function to help our families.

Something exceptional about Herb Pocket is that we try to be as transparent as possible as to what exactly you are purchasing.

Parsley is used in food and typically considered a “spice.” It is great for stomach ache and flatulence. Only a few decades ago it was served on almost every restaurant plate for garnish beauty and for chewing after the meal to enhance nice breath aroma and settle the stomach so the customer went away feeling good. If you’re prone to indigestion, this may be the plant to incorporate into your meals.  Dried parsley is a terrific additive to garlic salt and onion salt. It helps keep them from caking in storage and it helps you see the mix as it’s sprinkled on food. Below is a favorite recipe using all homegrown herbs. Note that you can use parsley flakes or powder. Since the leaves and the stem are medicinal, we dry the stem for use as a powder and we dry the leaves to use as parsley flakes. To make parsley flakes, simply crunch up the dried plant with your hands or pulse in a coffee grinder or blender until they are the size you’d like.

Garlic Salt/Toast Sprinkle

Mix in a small glass bowl:

1 tsp garlic powder

½ tsp salt

1 tsp (or more) parsley flakes or ½ tsp parsley powder

Butter or oil toast and sprinkle this on top.

This is great on crostini.

Cautions: Pregnancy and lactation in medicinal amounts. Should be safe as a culinary sprinkling atop food and as seasoning.

Rarely, parsley can cause photosensitivity rash in some people.

If nursing and don’t want milk to dry up—parsley dries up milk.
