Mallow Root

Mallow is grown in our own backyards. Herb Pocket workers grow plants without herbicides, pesticides, insecticides, fungicides, etc.  That’s better than “certified organic.”  When we harvest herbs it’s at the right time of day and at the right time of year for the best medicine. As we harvest we notice and discard rusted leaves, grass pieces, bugs, and yellowed leaves. We harvest (usually within a few minutes) and immediately take the plants inside where, if needed, they are washed and dried as quickly as possible. We do not use a steam application to kill bugs on freshly harvested plants. Our herbs dry in a dark room until they are placed in a paper sack for storage, also in a dark room. If a tincture is being made from the dried plant, we aim to make it within 6 weeks of harvest. If a tincture is made from the fresh plant, it is made within 48 hours of harvest. All plants and plant medicine are kept in the dark as much as possible during and after processing as well as during storage.. We pick every flower and leaf. We give thanks to the plants. We pour our heart and soul into providing a top quality product because we expect the plants to be very good at supporting normal body function to help our families.

Something exceptional about Herb Pocket is that we try to be as transparent as possible as to what exactly you are purchasing.

As a new company in 2022 we are still learning and so we’d appreciate your patience and feedback. Contact us at herbpocket2@gmail.com

Mallow is anti-inflammatory and soothes anywhere in the body and topically. It’s great as a salve or lotion ingredient. Because of these two great qualities, mallow is a great addition to any formula. Mallow, dried and powdered, is a great slimy drink for soothing anything in the body. It works well topically to soothe, decrease inflammation, and help speed healing. Any digestive formula will benefit from a little mallow root added in. The flavor of mallow is not too strong and therefore can be added to infusions easily. Best to do a cold infusion when using mucilaginous plants like mallow because they are so slimy. When you need mallow this is a good recipe:

Strawberry Mallow Cold Infusion

Put into the blender:

4 c water

Then add to the 6 cup line:

Strawberries, fresh or frozen (2 cups)

Next, add & blenderize:

4 tsp mallow root, powdered

¼ tsp stevia, green powdered

Put the blenderized contents into a pitcher with the lid on, and into the fridge overnight (or no less than 7 hours).

In the morning, strain (or not).

Drink all day long.

This version is quite good with lots of flavor.  I’ve used it as a concentrate, adding in 2-4 more cups of water to drink all day long.

One serving size:

Put into a jar with a lid in the fridge overnight:

1 c water

½ c thinly sliced strawberries

1 tsp mallow root

Pinch of stevia, green leaves dried and powdered

In the morning, strain. While straining, smoosh up the strawberries to get all their juice.

Notes: This has a hint of strawberry flavor.

Water infusions are great for those who suffer from dryness because the body will sometimes absorb infusions better than plain water. Somehow the body sees it as food and can hold onto it better.  Also, mallow is a demulcent and therefore helps to moisten the body.

Cautions: A very safe herb. None known.
